Horse Jump Standards

About Our Horse Jump Standards

Old Dominion Horse Jump Company offers horse jump standards that are built to last. The classic model pictured here is one of our bestselling products. All ground contact areas are made with pressure-treated wood, and the legs are bolted together. We sell a variety of designs, each one built to last long. Our team believes all wooden horse jumps should be a permanent investment.

We work to eliminate any sharp surfaces, thus minimizing injury to horse and rider. The edges of our horse jump standards are “eased,” meaning they are milled to a radius or a slightly rounded edge. This prevents splintering and is easier on your hands. Additionally, the tops of our standards are beveled with “dog-eared” edges.

Take a look at some of our colorful and creative horse jump sets below. Prices include entire jump set as pictured.

Horse Jump Poles

About Our Poles

Old Dominion Horse Jumps offers premium southern yellow pine octagonal jump poles that are 3.5 inches in diameter and can be cut to any length up to 12 feet. Our horse jump poles are sold with a natural, painted, or striped finish.

We use exterior semi and high gloss latex paints.  Our poles are primed and painted with 3 coats. Striped poles contain a total of 4 coats of paint.

All poles are inspected and graded individually. For our premium rails, we use the best lumber on the lot. We fill any cracks and use exterior cement filler that hardens, resists shrinkage and expansion, and can be sanded and painted. Each end is beveled to extend the pole lifespan and make it less likely to fracture. This also aids in surface-to-paint adherence, thus preventing “greying” and mildew.

We Give You More for Your Money

By ordering one of our packages, you receive a personalized design and quick delivery. Our standards are made from No. 1 grade lumber that’s clear of large knots, “cat-eyes,” “checks,” etc. Whether you’re buying painted or unpainted, we fill any cracks. All ground contact areas are constructed with pressure-treated wood, and all fasteners and hardware are galvanized.

Our horse jump standards for sale are bored with 5/8-inch, recessed holes, so you have an easier time working with the cups. Larger holes make it easier to slip pins in and out while adjusting pole heights, so there’s no prying and hammering needed. We also gang bore all holes by machine at the same time, so they’re perfectly centered left to right as well as linearly. Call to learn more about our standards and horse jump packages.

Multi Colored Horse Poles | Horse Jump Poles Virginia

All of our jump poles are inspected and graded individually. For our premium rails, we use only the best lumber on the lot. The rest are sold as 2nds. If cracks are present in our poles or horse jump standards, we fill them regardless if you are ordering unpainted or painted poles. We use an exterior cement filler that hardens, resists shrinkage and expansion, and can be sanded and painted.

To extend the life of our horse jump poles, each end is beveled and thereby less likely to fracture than traditional poles with sharp edges. Beveling the ends also assists in the surface to paint adherence, thus preventing “greying” and mildew, which are precursors to rot.

Attractive and Durable Horse Jump Standards

Our standards are always made with wood, not vinyl. Why? Because wood gives you, your horse, and your arena more value. Vinyl doesn’t provide the same rich and sophisticated look as wood, and using sandbags is a detraction to the appearance of your ring. Plus, horses tend to step on them and crash through them thereby decommissioning the use of the standard. You will seldom have these problems with our wooden standards and jumps. They stand on their own, the colors don’t fade, and they’re better for horses and your arena’s aesthetic appearance.

Because both strength and appearance are important, our horse jump standards are made from No. 1 grade lumber. The lumber is clear of large knots, ‘cat-eyes’, ‘checks’ and other undesirable characteristics. We want every one of our products to help you and your horse practice for years, so we only sell and send quality equipment.

Details of Our Horse Jump Designs

Each horse jump standard is bored with 5/8-inch, recessed holes. We bore larger holes than our competitors so you’ll have an easier time working with your jump cups. Larger holes make it easier to slip pins in and out while adjusting pole heights: no prying and hammering in the pin. We also gang bore all holes by machine at the same time, so they are perfectly centered left to right as well as linearly. Whether you are buying painted or unpainted standards, we fill any cracks that present themselves.

All ground contact areas are constructed with pressure treated wood and all fasteners and hardware we use are galvanized. The edges are “eased,” which means they are milled to a radius or a slightly rounded edge. This prevents splintering over the life of the product and is easier on your hands too. The tops of our horse jump standards are beveled with “dog-eared” edges. We try to eliminate any sharp surfaces, thus minimizing injury to the horse and rider. Feel free to ask any questions you have about our equipment.
